Yes, satellite is inherently reliable and
is not susceptible to issues like cables being dug up and distance to the
local exchange.
Can I get satellite where I work?
Yes, as long as your office has no
restrictive covenants that prohibit the installation of a small satellite
antenna. Access to the service is only determined by the ability to point
the antenna at the right part of the sky. (Much in the same way that a “Sky”
dish works).
Will I have to share the service with
other users?
The answer depends upon your needs. We are able to provide 100%
UNCONTENDED service to each and every business if required. However, most
customers are happy to share the service with other users to reduce costs.
We offer a number of standard packages that are designed to be comparable
to those from terrestrial Broadband providers.
Isn’t satellite very expensive?
It was certainly true that five years ago
the technology was expensive and more complex. Due to advances in
technology satellite has never been more affordable than it is today.
Couple this with the regional grant schemes that are available in many
areas and the result is an extremely competitive alternative to
terrestrial cable even where it exists already.
How long will I have to wait to get connected?
Typically delivery of a solution is 4-6
weeks from receipt of order and satisfactory site survey.
Can I upgrade my service and will I need
new hardware?
Yes the service offering is fully
scalable on the same hardware. Most customers will be able to start small
and grow their bandwidth as needs demand.
How much space will I need for all this
equipment?
The external satellite dish is a little
larger than a typical sky dish. (96cm diameter to 1.2m in the North of
Scotland).
The indoor equipment is normally no
larger than a couple of set top boxes and can easily be incorporated into
the smallest of office space with ease.
What happens if the service fails?
In the unlikely event of a problem with
the equipment Prism operates a full support and repair service anywhere in
the UK. A telephone help line is provided to all business customers to
ensure practical help is on hand to isolate problems and correct faults.
I don’t know much about technology so
this all sounds a bit too scary for me.
Don’t worry, we pride ourselves on our
customer support at all stages of the sale. We will send technical
advisers to talk you through the options and ensure you chose the right
package to meet your needs.
How long is the contract period?
We recognise that some customers need the
flexibility to change as their business changes. We only require a 12
month min contract to establish this service. We also recognise that some
regions will ultimately get terrestrial broadband and those customers
lucky enough to have a choice may prefer to move to terrestrial broadband
if and when it becomes available. In practice many customers prefer to
leave the satellite system in place to provide backup to terrestrial
broadband especially if they are marginal in terms of coverage.
